Monopolar versus bipolar cautery in tonsillectomy: A comparative study

Introduction: Tonsillectomy is the most commonly performed surgeries in otolaryngology. Despite evolution surgical and anaesthetic techniques, pain bleeding are still important complications. This study was done to compare following tonsillectomy using monopolar bipolar cautery techniques our population. Methods: It a prospective, longitudinal over period of one year at Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara, Nepal. Total 45 patients who underwent by either or were included assessed for postoperative haemorhage. The data entered Microsoft Excel further analysis statistical package social sciences 16.0. association variables be tested Chi square test p-value less than 0.05 considered significant. Confidence interval kept 95%. Results: Out tonsillectomy, 35.5% males 64.5% females. age varied from 16 60 years. Mean 27.5 Fourty percent total whereas 60% operated cautery. No statistically significant difference found between two groups regarding age, sex ratio, bleeding. Conclusions: Both equally effective methods terms haemorrhage.
